1. Open your windows daily
Most people think improving their health means doing more. More supplements, more routines, more information to keep up with. But in reality, it often starts by simplifying what is already around you. Your home environment affects you every single day, whether you are paying attention to it or not. The air you breathe, the products you use, and the food you eat all play a role. The good news is you do not need to change everything at once to start feeling better.
One of the simplest places to begin is with your air. Opening your windows daily, even for five to ten minutes, can help clear out stale indoor air that builds up from cooking, cleaning products, and everyday living. Most people spend the majority of their time inside (it's estimated to be 90% right now!) without ever thinking about air quality. Fresh air is free, easy, and often overlooked, but it can make a noticeable difference in how your space feels.
2. Start removing before adding
Another important shift is to start removing things before adding anything new. There is a constant push to buy more products in the name of health (as a biohacker, I'm guilty of this as well), but over time I find that's not always what moves the needle.
Instead, take a look at what you are already using every day. Cleaning products, personal care items, and processed foods are a good place to start. You do not need to throw everything out overnight (well maybe just the seed oils!), but slowly replacing questionable items with simpler, cleaner options can reduce your overall exposure and create a more supportive environment.
3. Simplify your food
Food is another area where simplicity goes a long way. Real, whole foods are usually easy to recognize and do not come with long ingredient lists. You do not need complicated meal plans or strict rules to eat well. Focusing on basic, nourishing foods and keeping your meals simple can remove a lot of the stress that comes with trying to “eat perfectly.” Consistency matters more than complexity.
A super simple rule of thumb I've heard over the years might help, as it pertains to food. Ask yourself before you eat it: did it fall from a tree, or grow from the ground, or have a mother, and is it in its most original form. Basically, is it whole, minimally processed foods that either grew (plants) or had a mother (animals) and composed of what it was in nature.
4. Consider your sleep sanctuary
Your bedroom is also worth paying attention to, since you spend about a third of your life sleeping! Sleep is one of the most important factors in overall health, and your environment can either support it or work against it. Keeping your bedroom cool, dark, and as clean as possible can improve both the quality of your sleep and how you feel the next day. Even small changes in this space can have a meaningful impact.
5. Move your body every day
Finally, remember that your body is built to move. Movement does not need to be complicated or structured to be effective. Walking, getting outside, and staying generally active throughout the day can support your health in a simple, sustainable way. You do not need the perfect workout plan to benefit from daily movement. You just need to keep showing up. You got this!
Small changes make a big difference
You do not need to overhaul your entire life to feel better. Start with one or two of these changes and build from there. Small, consistent improvements in your home and daily habits can help you take back control of your health in a way that actually lasts.
